Trains O Scale – Introduction

Welcome to Trains O Scale, I’m glad you dropped by.

This site is an all-inclusive model railroading guide for beginners, starting with the basics and then moving on to the more detailed aspects of this wonderful hobby.

To Each His Own

One of the best features of model railroading is that there is no wrong way to get started. You choose the way that suits you the best by concentrating only on the areas you feel are the most interesting aspects of the hobby.

Maybe you are interested in O scale trains because you had them when you were younger and you would like to relive some of those moments and share them with your own children.

Maybe you prefer the “garden scale trains” (a.k.a. LGB or a G scale train) that are often used outdoors. This offers a great opportunity to create some spectacular natural settings for your trains.

Or perhaps your area of interest is “scale model railroading” (most popular being HO train sets) where you buy or build facsimiles of cars and locomotives used in real life, but that’s just the beginning. Most scale modelers create their own miniature world with intricate layouts, beautiful scenery and replicas of small towns and villages.

Those are just a few of the topics we will be covering within the Trains O Scale site.

Family Fun

Model railroading is the one hobby that can occupy the attention of every member of the family, with each one recruited to perform some task. You may find that a hobby you intended to be just for you winds up including the entire family.

It’s also a hobby that you can bequeath to your children who can then carry it on to their own children one day.

Time spent together working on your model railroad is real quality time and far exceeds anything you can get by spending another night in front of the TV set, especially when your kids are in their rooms playing video games.

Site Features

Within the Trains O Scale site you will learn all about:

• Different types of model trains
• Designing your layout

So come on in, look around and introduce yourself to the awesome world of model railroading.

Now I know Trains O Scale is a strange name for a website, I agree. But it’s based on memories of the great fun I had growing up in the 1950s and 1960s playing with my Lionel trains, which were O Scale. Ah, there is a method to my madness.
