Buy Toy Train Sets To Save Your Sanity!
There are many types of toy train sets that you can buy. There are very basic sets containing a locomotive, enough tracks to make a simple oval, 3 or 4 railroad cars, power supply and perhaps even a little bit of scenery. Or how about something like a Thomas The Train battery powered set.
These are great for children, who want to see the train move around the track, or for the adult who just has passing interest and only brings it out at Christmas time to put around the tree.
However, these are not the type of trains that the serious model railroad enthusiast would ever consider. They are not well made and they simply don’t have the appeal or quality of a well detailed train set.
But even the most avid railroader may want to consider buying one of these inexpensive toy train sets. The reason is simple, it’s so the kids leave your model train sets alone.
Yes, kids will love watching the trains as they go through tunnels and over trestles. They’ll be fascinated watching several trains running at the same time and with all the cool scenery. But, sooner or later, they will get bored with just watching.
Kids want to play with things, not just watch them. This means touching them, picking them up, dropping them, throwing them, flushing them and who knows what else.
Remember that beautiful layout you made with the mountains, streams and small towns that took you thousands of hours to build?
Remember the movie ‘Twister’ where everything gets uprooted and thrown through the air in a matter of seconds?
Yup, kids are a lot like a tornado, they come out of nowhere and disappear suddenly leaving a path of destruction. Maybe that’s a little extreme (just maybe) but you get the idea.
In case you have any doubts here’s a short video to demonstrate my point. Here are two really cute kids having fun “playing” with trains. Now just imagine if these were your prized locomotives and rail cars.
Did you hear the evil laughter in the background as one by one the engines met their fate? For your own peace of mind get the kiddies their own inexpensive set of trains so they won’t ruin yours.
This has the added benefit of getting them interested in something other than TV and video games and perhaps they will develop the same passion for model railroading that you have. Who knows, in the years to come they may even let you play with their toy train sets.
